TATA Indicom internet connection overbilling
Dear Editor
I had purchased a TATA Indicom surf 2 whiz internet connection in May 2008. Under the scheme, I was offered unlimited surfing and free download for two months. But now I am getting calls and text messages about my high internet usage. I checked back with the dealer who confirmed that the scheme was indeed available to me. I complained to the dealer but am receiving high usage calls again. The TATA Indicom nodal officer instead of resolving the matter, is threatening to cut the connection and even offering a discount on the connection's bill, which originally was promised free! I could have taken an unlimited plan earlier if it was not promised to me that for 2 months, I won't get a bill. Is that a tactic to sell a particular plan?

Consumer VOICE Responce |
If you are sure that your plan allowed you unlimited usage, then you should not be bothered about calls from the service provider asking you to pay inflated bills. Your cause of action will arise if the service provider disconnects your connection or sends you a bill. You should keep the hard copy of the details of the internet plan with you, should you require to fight your case. If the service provider persists, you should write to TRAI and also bring the media in the loop. |

Unsolicited insurance policies
Dear Editor
I have been facing harassment from Citibank. In their latest bill, they have threatened interest rate of 37.8% annually. First, Citibank issued me a credit card without current application. Then even after my denying mediclaim and accident policy, they sent it by post again without any application or verification/ photo of family members. On my opposition to Citibank and Royal Sundaram, they cancelled the policy, but chased me for an amount of Rs 2000. I was so annoyed with Citibank that I returned their card immediately and asked to close all correspondence with me. Their call centre called me and my family so many times for payment that I warned them of police action. I have been receiving SMSes and statements from them since. I request you to forward a copy of this letter to IRDA requesting them to interfere because without knowing a person's physical condition, how can an insurance company send a mediclaim policy by post?

ICICI home loan problem
Dear Editor
I had applied for a home loan with ICICI in March 2008. Till date my loan process is not complete. It was promised that I would be receiving a loan of Rs 26,00,000 fully as per agreement. I was promised approximately 92% of the agreement and stamp duty value. Now I am being told that only 85 % of the laon request can be approved. I had made provision for personal contribution as per the assurance given to me by ICICI. I can't arrange for the extra funds that would be required.

Consumer VOICE Responce |
We understand from your letter that the bank is not agreeing to give you the loan amount that was initially promised to you. Therefore you feel disappointed with the service. While we understand that you feel let down, it should be noted that it is the statutory job of the bank to grant/approve a loan, or refuse to give it, or give less than amount applied for. No court can interfere in this statutory business. |

Reliance Money deducts unknown charges from customer account
Dear Editor
I had opened a Reliance Money account with Rs 500 brokerage and Rs 750 as account opening charges. In February and March 2008, an amount of Rs 450 (each time) was debited from my account as some “Limit card use” charge. I called the customer care 3-4 times and was informed that their computer systems were not working. The agent who helped me open the account told me that this was not an isolated case and the same thing had happened to others as well.

You are advised to first check with the rules/terms &conditions that you must have agreed to while filling the application form initially. In case you find that the charges have indeed been wrongly debited and are beyond the terms and conditions, you can write to Reliance Money, asking them for a valid reason. In case you do not get satisfactory response, you can go to consumer court, referring to the terms and conditions. Before that, you may write to Reliance Money, informing them of your intention to approach a consumer forum. |
